Winward Racing had an incredible weekend at IMSA’s return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The team made history as your first GTD and GS winners of the Battle on the Bricks and Indianapolis 240.
Bryce Ward and Daniel Morad earned their second win of the 2023 Michelin Pilot Challenge season after the four-hour race that led into the night. Ward had a great start that gained a spot on the grid, but had to work hard to move the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT4 forward again while keeping it clean after being knocked off track shortly after the green flag. Bryce handed the car off to Morad P13 after passing 13 competing cars, and the No. 57 left pitlane P6 after a quick pit-stop by the Winward crew. Morad, after a hard fight with fuel and the No. 47, came through the checkered flag P1.
Russell Ward and Philip Ellis wrapped up the WeatherTech Sprint Cup with their first win of the 2023 season, following a P3 finish at Virginia International Raceway. Ward, who qualified the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo P5 in GTD the day before, had a great stint in a chaotic first hour of the 2-hour 40-minute race. By the end of the hour, the No. 57 was P3. Ellis worked diligently to battle the No. 1 and No. 78, and found himself in victory lane, earning another win for Winward.
The team will wrap up their 2023 IMSA season at Road Atlanta for Petit Le Mans October 11th-14th. Indy Dontje will return to drive with Ward and Ellis in the final endurance round of the year.
